“I’m growing increasingly tired of the Zionist deflection to Muslim women, and to their rights. They act like we need saving, because we are being “oppressed by our own people” and “have no rights”. They pretend to care, while actively condemning our religious or spiritual beliefs as the reason our own “mistreatment”, as if we are brainwashed and cannot make our own decisions. They have this delusional fantasy that they have the right to speak on behalf of me and my sisters. Instead of acknowledging the extreme oppression, institutional discrimination and violation of human rights displayed by the very entity they support, they default and deflect to surrounding “Muslim” countries, whose policies and laws are completely separate and irrelevant from what is being discussed. And somehow we, Muslim women, despite our diverse ethnicities and beliefs, are thrown right into the mix. Let me tell you something. If you want to know how Muslim women feel, don’t ask Jerusalem Post, CIJA, CJPAC, Fox News, Michael Oren, Pamela Geller or Bibi Netanyahu. Shed your colonialist, racist, patriarchal, condescending orientalist views and you ask a MUSLIM WOMAN. I’m reclaiming my narrative. And I refuse to be your deflection.”

Oscar-nominated Palestinian director detained at LAX:

Palestinian director of Oscar-nominated “5 Broken Cameras” Emad Burnat was detained at Los Angeles airport and threatened with deportation Wednesday, the filmmaker told Al-Akhbar in an interview.

Burnat traveled to Los Angeles, from Palestine via Turkey, to attend Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony, where his film has been nominated for the “Best Documentary” category.

He was interrogated, detained for six hours, and had his fingerprints taken twice. Airport officers googled his name to confirm that he had indeed been nominated for an Oscar.

LAX officials at first told Burnat they intended to deny him entry to the United States. “I told them I don’t care if you send me back to Palestine, just don’t detain me for any longer,” Burnat said.

His wife and eight-year-old son, who is the documentary’s main character, were also held at the airport.

During his layover in Turkey’s Istanbul, Burnat was also questioned by airport security officials.

Asked whether he thought he was sought out because of his film, Burnat said: “I don’t know, but this is the first time this happens. I’ve been to the States six times in the last year.”

In historic decision, South Africa’s ANC makes support for Israel boycott its official policy

For the first time ever, the African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party in South Africa, today made the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment and sanctions on Israel part of its official policy.

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi of BDS South Africa said the decision “by the ANC’s National Conference, its highest decision making body, is by far the most authoritative endorsement of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel campaign.”

In a press release sent out by email, BDS South Africa explained:

In October 2012, the ANC’s International Solidarity Conference (ISC) declared its full support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel campaign.

Today, Lindiwe Zulu (member of the ANC’s International Relations Sub-Committee and special advisor to President Jacob Zuma) announced at the ANC’s 53rd National Conference plenary session, the ANC’s official endorsement, as captured in Resolution 39 (b), of the ANC’s October International Solidarity Conference (ISC) and all its resolutions, which includes a resolution on BDS. Giving muscle to resolution 39 (b), the ANC has committed to set up a steering committee to implement these ISC resolutions.

In addition, the ANC adopted resolution 35 (g) that specifically called for “all South Africans to support the programmes and campaigns of the Palestinian civil society which seek to put pressure on Israel to engage with the Palestinian people to reach a just solution.”

Solidarity with Africans mistreated by Israel

BDS South Africa also applauded the ANC National Conference for passing a resolution that “abhors the recent Israeli state-sponsored xenophobic attacks and deportation of Africans” and to “request that this matter should be escalated to the African Union.”

Growing solidarity in South Africa

Recently high-level South African church leaders, shocked at what they saw then they visited Palestine, also expressed support for the boycott.

In August, South Africa’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Ebrahim advised his country’s citizens not to travel to Israel “because of the treatment and policies of Israel towards the Palestinian people.”

Prior to October’s decision at the ANC’s International Solidarity Conference – that set the stage for today’s vote at the National Conference – more than 150 former anti-Apartheid activists from around the world signed a statement calling on the ANC to support the boycott.

Today, those voices and those of solidarity groups in South Africa, proved to be more effective than the appeals of the once mighty anti-Palestinian groups.

[TW: Violence, Abuse] Israeli occupation forces arrested, today Friday, the Jerusalemite teenager Hasan Afif Hasan al-Afifi (age 17), of Bab al-Hadid in the Old City, after they attacked him. Al-Afifi’s mother told Wafa that her son was arrested during the violent confrontations that occurred at the Al-Aqsa mosque today, and that her son was nowhere near the mosque and did not participate in any activities. She stated that 15 members of Israel’s special forces attacked her son as he stood outside his house and beat him violently until his blood ran on the ground, and they sprayed her with gas as she tried to defend her son which led to her passing out. She indicated that her son was transferred to the Russian Compound interrogation and detention center in West Jerusalem.
اعتقلت قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، اليوم الجمعة، الفتى المقدسي حسن عفيف حسن العفيفي (17عاماً)، من سكان باب الحديد بالقدس القديمة، بعد الاعتداء عليه.

وأفادت والدة الفتى العفيفي لـ ‘وفا’، بأن اعتقال نجلها جاء إثر المواجهات العنيفة التي اندلعت في المسجد الأقصى، اليوم، مؤكدة أن نجلها المعتقل لم يؤد الصلاة بالمسجد الأقصى ولم يشارك بأية فعاليات.

A video shows Israeli occupation forces in Jerusalem smashing the head of a Palestinian boy on the ground during a violent arrest, after Israeli troops stormed the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in eastern occupied Jerusalem this morning.

The brief clip shows a boy being dragged by black-clad occupation soldiers. As the boy screams “khalas” – “enough” or “stop” – the soldiers throw him to the ground. One soldier punches the boy in the side of the head, smashing his head into the stone floor.

Palestinian children in Jerusalem are frequently targeted by Israeli occupation forces. Some 700 are arrested and detained annually in the city alone and are routinely subjected to cruel, violent and illegal abuses.
